Dr. Hetal Bhakta is one of the most sought-after cardiologists in the Coachella Valley. Specializing in the Field of Electrophysiology and in Cardiology. He offers state-of-the-art care for both diseases of the heart and its electrical malfunctions that disrupt the proper blood flow.
Dr. Bhakta’s first inspiration for the field of cardiology came in early childhood after he saw the life-saving results of the heart surgery on his grandfather and its influence on his family. He was later drawn to the new and growing field of electrophysiology because it offers the doctor ability to make an instant impact on the disease course with minimally invasive procedures.
After graduating from Albany Medical College in New York, Dr. Bhakta completed his clinical training in internal medicine and cardiology from University of Southern California. He then completed advance fellowship in electrophysiology from Kaiser-UCLA program. After finishing his clinical training Dr. Bhakta moved to Palm Springs and founded Desert Heart Rhythm Consultants and started the Electrophysiology Program at Desert Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Bhakta has since built a comprehensive EP program which offers a full complement of services for patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders—from device-based therapies to advance ablation therapies which cure heart rhythm disorders in many cases. Dr. Bhakta also is a leader in introducing cutting-edge technologies and new procedures to the Coachella Valley and Inland Empire that provide new and safer options for improving the lives of people who live here.
It is the only program in the region that offers robotically guided ablation therapies which is the most advanced and safest technology available today. Robotic Navigation therapies provide an effective cure for patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders with improved safety compared to manual approaches. Dr. Bhakta works closely with engineers from Stereotaxis (the company that makes the robotic technology) to help continually improve its capabilities and clinical outcomes.
Dr. Bhakta is the first cardiologist to implant LAA occlusion device (Watchman) west of Los Angeles. Watchman provides a true alternative for many patients in the Inland Empire who suffer from atrial fibrillation and cannot take blood thinners or have problems taking blood thinners. Prior to Dr. Bhakta starting the WATCHMAN program at Desert Regional Medical Center the closest place one could have such an option was to travel more than 100 miles to Los Angeles or San Diego. Dr. Bhakta is currently the only doctor implanting these devices in the Coachella Valley.
Dr. Bhakta is the only independent Electrophysiologist in the Coachella Valley. In today’s high-cost environment of health care, independent physicians are able to provide the same services in their offices at a fraction of the cost of those physicians that are hospital based.
In addition to being a leader in his field, Dr. Bhakta is also active in leadership roles in the hospital, among his peers and the community. He is the director for Electrophysiology and Heart Failure at Desert Regional Medical Center. He is also the Chairman of Department of Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee. Dr. Bhakta is the immediate past Chairman of the Governing Board of Desert Regional Medical Center. He is also very active in the community as Speaker and Board member of the American Heart Association.
